Transparency
- Nisolo received every point possible in this impact area.
- They disclose the location of their factories along with details of workers at each site, wages paid, conditions etc. Nisolo operates across four countries: Peru, Kenya, Mexico and the U.S. Although 70% of their products are produced in Trujillo, Peru.
- Nisolo has knowledge of their suppliers up to the Tier 4 stage, and they are currently in the process of conducting audits of their raw material suppliers and tanneries they source from.
- Nisolo has invested heavily to rework Tier 2 of their supply chain in order to source exclusively from Leather Working Group (LWG) certified tanneries.
Fair Labor
- Nisolo has a Brand Partner Code of Conduct which has been developed based largely on the SA8000 standards.
- Nisolo consistently audits their Tier 1 facilities, and is currently in the process of initiating audits for their Tier 2 and Tier 3 facilities.
- Nisolo factories have Freedom of Association (FoA) and collective bargaining. One of their factories, Blue Artisan Group (BAG) also has an active union. Nisolo does not operate in locations where FoA is constrained.
- Nisolo pays 100% of its workers living wages and has various well-being programs across its facilities.
Sustainably Made
- Nisolo discloses its total emissions as measured by Climate Neutral and discloses the percentage of emissions generated from product manufacturing.
- Nisolo offsets 100% of its carbon emissions.
- Much of Nisolo’s supply chain uses renewable energy as their primary energy source, and wherever possible, Nisolo encourages suppliers to switch to solar energy.
- Nisolo works with Leather Working Group certified suppliers who have wastewater standards aligned with the ZDHC guidelines.
- Nisolo runs on a consume less, produce less philosophy where circularity is embraced. They take into account the environmental impact of their products at every stage- from initial design to material selection to end use.
- The majority of Nisolo’s packaging is made from recycled corrugated cardboard and is fully recyclable. Nisolo also plans to utilize single box packaging instead of double box packaging in the future.
- Nisolo uses vegetable dyes for tanning leather.
- Nisolo only sources leather that is a byproduct of the meat industry as opposed to animals being raised solely for leather.
- Nisolo has partnered with Ecosphere+ to protect the threatened forest of Cordillera Azul of the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest and the livelihoods of its indigenous communities and to offset their carbon emissions.
